For more information about IACA training classes, or the IACA Professional Trainng Series, please visit our FAQ area
The IACA Professional Training Series, instituted in 2006, comprises five five-day modules: Fundamentals of Crime Analysis, Tactical Crime Analysis, Problem Analysis, Crime Mapping, and Computer Applications for Crime Analysis. Each of the Professional Training Series instructors are experienced analysts with proven ability in presentation and instruction.
The IACA Professional Training Series director is Mary Craige of the Alexandria (VA) Police Department.
Each of the five modules in the Professional Training Series is also currently being offered online through Arapahoe Community College in Colorado as part of a certificate in crime analysis. As with the IACA-sponsored classes, each of the classes in the Arapahoe program is taught by an experienced analyst and IACA member. Click here for more information.
IACA Class Cancellation Policy
Payments for IACA classes must be received 10 business days prior to the first day of class. Student cancellations/withdrawals from class must be received by the Training Series Coordinator via email 15 business days prior to the first day of class. Substitutions can be made of another student from the same agency, but written notification must be made to the Training Coordinator via email. Here's what other attendees have to say about our training classes:
Finally, a certification process that actually teaches crime analysis as practiced in the modern world! I know I could learn to cook over an open flame I started myself by rubbing two sticks together, but it’s more to the point to learn how to use the 65,000 BTU gas grill sitting on my desk. IACA has applied this mentality to training analysts, and Susan Smith brings the knowledge and skills of a sound practitioner to our developing field. For those who want to develop their skills, rather than just document their attendance: this is the training series you’ve been looking for, and Susan is the perfect instructor to start it off! - John Bradley, Brighton (CO) Police Department
I was able to take things I learned in class and apply them directly
to my work. I explained to the Chief how I found a burglary problem based on
calculations learned in this class, and he said he'd keep sending me
to training! - Trina Cook, Tukwila (WA) Police Department
