Daniel McDevitt

Daniel McDevitt has a Masters Degree in Criminology and has authored three acclaimed law enforcement books, two of which are related to management of investigative units and major cases: “Major Case Management – A Guide for the Law Enforcement Manager”, and “Managing the Investigative Unit”. His third book “Police Chief- How to Attain and Succeed at this Critical Position” is for personnel aspiring to Chief’s positions.

Dan served for over 36 years in his law enforcement career, beginning with his appointment as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). He then served for 24 years with the Illinois State Police, retiring as a Captain, and subsequently served for ten more years as Chief of Police in two Chicago suburbs – Homewood and Lansing, IL.

During his career, he managed numerous investigative units, Task Forces, and Major Case Investigations. He also planned, developed, and provided training for communities in which Major Case Task Forces were being implemented.
